Marketplaces
EPR on marketplaces: bol, Kaufland, ManoMano and Allegro
Last checked ยท 3 min read
EPR on marketplaces works the same way everywhere: the platform checks that you are registered in the countries where it sells, and you remain the producer who declares and pays. What differs is what each platform asks for. This guide lists the requirements of bol, Kaufland, ManoMano and Allegro. Amazon has its own guide.
- +bol: selling in the Netherlands and Belgium requires meeting the EPR rules there. Sellers based outside Belgium must appoint an authorised representative in Belgium.
- +Kaufland: EPR numbers per country in the Seller Portal, since the PPWR for every country Kaufland operates in.
- +ManoMano: your French UINs, because French law requires marketplaces to collect them.
- +Allegro: Poland has its own registration in the BDO register.
bol: EPR in the Netherlands and Belgium
bol tells its sellers they may only sell through bol in the Netherlands and Belgium if they comply with the applicable EPR rules. If they do not, bol is legally required to take their range offline, and bol has announced it will extend enforcement for certain product categories.
- Netherlands: batteries are named explicitly; for electronics, textiles and packaging the rules in the Netherlands guide apply.
- Belgium: EPR rules apply to all categories. See the Belgium guide.
- Belgian representative: if you are based outside Belgium, you appoint an authorised representative in Belgium by written power of attorney before offering products there.
Kaufland: EPR numbers per country
Kaufland asks you to enter your EPR registration numbers per country in its Seller Portal. For Germany that is your LUCID number for packaging, your WEEE number for electronics and your battery registration number. When numbers are missing, the affected products can no longer be sold and offers are hidden on the Kaufland marketplaces.
With the PPWR, Kaufland points out that you must register separately in every country where you are a producer, and that no EU-wide collective registration exists. Kaufland runs marketplaces in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, among others.
ManoMano: UINs for France
ManoMano is a French marketplace for DIY, garden and home, and so falls under France's AGEC law: a marketplace must collect its sellers' UINs, or contribute for them itself. ManoMano's categories are exactly where France has many EPR schemes of its own: DIY and garden products, furniture, power tools and batteries. Expect to need a UIN for each. See the France guide.
Allegro: Poland and the BDO register
Allegro is Poland's largest marketplace. Poland runs EPR through the BDO register (Baza danych o produktach i opakowaniach oraz o gospodarce odpadami), in which companies placing packaged products or electronics on the Polish market must register. Channelsum does not yet hold scheme data for Poland; check with Allegro and a Polish adviser which numbers you need to provide.
Other platforms
The same principle holds on every platform: the marketplace checks that you are registered in the countries it sells in, and you remain the producer who declares and pays. If you also sell through Praxis or Brico (Maxeda), eBay or your own Shopify or WooCommerce store, those sales count towards your kilograms per country too, even when the platform does not ask for numbers.
That is exactly where it often goes wrong: sellers enter a number on each platform, but declare only part of their sales per country. Your declaration has to cover all channels together. How to calculate it is in calculating packaging weight.
Frequently asked questions
Does bol ask for an EPR number?
bol requires you to comply with EPR rules in the Netherlands and Belgium and is legally required to take down the range of sellers who do not. Sellers based outside Belgium must appoint a Belgian authorised representative.
Which EPR numbers does Kaufland ask for?
EPR registration numbers per country, in the Seller Portal. For Germany your LUCID number for packaging, and your WEEE and battery numbers where relevant.
Do I need a UIN to sell on ManoMano?
For France, yes, one per EPR scheme your products fall under. French law requires ManoMano to collect your UINs.
Do sales through my own webshop count?
Yes. Your declaration per country covers all your sales into that country, through every marketplace and your own webshop together.
